ROT13 Cipher
ROT13 cipher game... Well not really a game, more of a fun interactive demo of the ROT13 cipher. Originally I made this for a Pico-8 1k 2025 game jam, but since I'm not on itch.io anymore, I thought I'd just put it up here as a fun little interactive demo. It's perfect for kids learning about ciphers and basic cryptography concepts, or anyone who just wants to play around with the ROT13 transformation.
Type in the top box and see the ROT13 transformation in the bottom box. If you write plain text, bottom box will show the ROT13 cipher. If you write ROT13 cipher in the top box, bottom box will show the plain text. There's also Enigma style lamp display to indicate which letters are being transformed as you type.
ROT13 is a simple letter substitution cipher that replaces a letter with the 13th letter after it in the alphabet. It is a special case of the Caesar cipher, which was developed in ancient Rome. ROT13 is often used to obfuscate text, such as spoilers or puzzle solutions, in online forums and discussions. It's also perfect for kids learning about ciphers and basic cryptography concepts. Have fun playing around with it!
🕹️ Controls:
Just type away in the top box! The bottom box will automatically update with the ROT13 transformation. You can type in either plain text or ROT13 cipher, and the other box will show the corresponding transformation. Simple!
