Game & Watch - Ball

Ball is a first Nintendo handheld game released in 1980. It was the first game for the Game & Watch series, and is a simple juggling game where you control a character later known as Mr. Game & Watch. The objective is to keep two or three balls in the air by moving the characters hands left and right to catch them and throw them back into the air.

Unlike later games in the Game & Watch series, Ball has no lives. One mistake and game ends. Also I belive Ball is the only Game & Watch game that has different score for Game A (1 point for each catch) and Game B (10 points for each catch). Game does speed up as you score more points, but it will reset back to starting speed every 100 points. I did change the score system to reward 1 point for each catch in both Game A and Game B, because I think it makes more sense that way. I belive Nintendo reached the same conclusion later on, because in later Game & Watch games the score is the same in both Game A and Game B.

I've read somewhere that this game along with other early Game & Watch games were designed to entertain people while they were commuting to work. True or not, it's easy to belive that. When I was a kid I didn't had a Game & Watch, I just had a digital Casio watch. Game I used to play was very simple: stop the stopwatch at exactly 1, 5 or 10 seconds. With friends there was even some competitive element in it... I can imagine that Ball was a perfect game for that kind of situation.
